An Open Letter from a Brazilian. After years out of piracy, I really think is time return. And for what I have seen from my friends, piracy will return strongly to them too.

Since I have discovered Steam, I had complete abandon the piracy of games. Fair prices, support to our currencies, support to our language, etc. The same had happened with Netflix too, but it is another topic.

But I have noticed in the recent years, developers (close to all AAA devs) had started to put prices in my country that does not fit with our economy. If you do not know, we had live in the biggest economic recession in our history. Our economy is starting to return but at a very slow pace. To you understand our situation, many here live with 300~500 dollars by month that is necessary to pay for all their expenses, and everything here is fucking expensive because we have more than 60% of taxes over everything. Cars are expensive here, phones, TVs, PCs, anything is more expensive here.

And recently, developers are just putting prices in their games that are EVEN HIGHER than the prices practiced in the United States! Just to put a recent example:

Dead or Alive 6:

On the US it costs U$59.90 (R$ 224.55 - in our currency), in Brazil, it costs R$ 249.90 (U$ 66,66)

Yeah, you not seen it wrong! They are charging more from us than from you, North Americans, that have a MUCH BETTER economy than us. And this is not only for DOA6, but any game from Warner, Bethesda, Namco and the list is also growing on and on that are getting those prices! Mortal Kombat 11? Same! The only developer that is not practicing a higher price here than the US is Ubisoft (for now), but still, they are charging from us much more than what the common Brazilian can afford.

When was only Warner, I just not buy their games, now that is EVERYONE doing this. So yes, I'm thinking to return to piracy of games, and from what I have seen from my friends, they all thinking the same.

Brazil was dominated by piracy for a long time ago, but after Steam, if you saw the graphs of piracy here, the piracy is going down! I even had forgotten how to piracy a game because how much time had passed from when I had pirated on a game, but with this new price practice, is good to any developer that is reading this, you are giving to us a lot of reasons to relearn how to piracy games.

The must real price to our reality is around R$ 100.00 (U$ 26,68), more than that is just too expensive for us. Is a small price to a game developer? Yes, it is, but or is it, or is zero. And you're choosing the zero. When we need to choose between food, or games. We choose food, but even so, we still want to play a game, and if we can't afford it, we will do in our way.

And the funny thing is that price I have said is the even higher price they practice on Russia.
