What is with people snubbing fiction?

I just attended a professional development day in my city, and the recurring remark from a large number of the speakers was that they don’t waste time with fiction books. (IE: the only books worth reading are non-fiction business books like Start With Why and Good to Great).

This enrages me. I read a lot of business non-fiction and most of it is repetitive vague garbage. I predict that AI will be writing the top selling business non-fiction in 5-10 years.

Fiction has taught me how to be a human being. Fiction has made me a better person.
