What is going on with the Brazilian presidential election? Do Brazilians agree with Bolsonaro? Why?

There is an upcoming presidential election and a seemingly popular candidate named Bolsonaro is promising to wield all kinds of extreme powers to prosecute opponents? Are people actually repsonding to this positively? What brought Brazil to reject worker's parties? I expected Brazil would have a somewhat reasonable attitude towards workers/socialist parties? (this is based on my perception of there being significant poor / working class populations - this is my uninformed outsiders bias)
